  1. There are two forges in Bohermore Parish, Marnane's forge and Crowe's forge. Mickey Carty is the smith in Marnane's forge and Mr Crowe in the other. The Marnanes have been smiths for many generations but owing to ill-health the present Mr Marnane has had to (retire) resign from work and hire the above mentioned smith.
Marnane's forge is situated on the roadside, near a pump. It has a timber roof covered over with felt. It has a large square door and three windows, two of which are glazed and the other is timber. There is only one fire within for the work but now and again, he lights a fire in the yard. There is a great big bellows made of timber and leather to blow the fire andit it has a long timber handle. It was made if by Con Marnane. He uses sledge hammers, vices, iron, files, rasps and an anvil and several other implements.
The banding of wheels is done in the open air, in the forge yard, where a fire is lit for the work. Every evening the young people of the neighbourhood gather there and play cards and pitch and toss or discuss the news of the day
