- The Leprechaun
The Leprechaun is a small man about two foot high. He wears a red coat, and a green cap which is tapered and a tight fitting short breeches. He has a big pair of boots with long pointed toes. He carries a leaden stick.
Making boots and minding gold are his occupation. He may be seen walking in the waterfalls. A rich protestant put a lot of gold into a can . He took one of his servants with him, made a big hole, and put him and the gold into it. He asked the servant to mind it dead or alive. He said he would and his master slew him.
One was seen between Upperchurch and Fahy's Cross (2 miles from Upperchurch) during the Black and Tan time and again three years ago. He was followed by a man carrying a gun but escaped.
