We can find no account of "tithes" having been collected round here, though strange to say they are still collected in Montore and a few neighbouring townlands, situated about a mile and a half north of this school.
All the land formerly owned by those people is now the property of the I.h.b.
Some years ago much of it was bought from the then owners by local land committees who unfortunately paid them a very high price. These committees then re-sold it in small lots but being so dear it would have been very little use to those who got it were it not for the fact that the Government came to their aid some years ago. The greater part of the Lloyd estate was bought directly by the I.h.b. They subdivided it giving farms and building new houses for some; while other small farmers in the neighbourhood got additions of from six to ten acres.Written by Mai Mullally. St. Cronans P.S.
