- (continued from previous page)subjects were taught there by Mr. Patrick Maher.There were latin lessons given by Mr. O'Carroll in a room over the sacristy in the church in Ballingarry. Mr. O'Carroll was paid by the pupils each week. This teacher stayed with the then parish priest Canon Cantwell. He had a school of between twenty or thirty pupils. Several young boys from Ballingarry village got their first lessons in latin from this teacher before they entered for the priesthood. These were the Egan's, Croke's and O'Brien's.There was a protestant school, about two hundred yards from the church-yard in Glengall, Ballingarry, Thurles. it was the high school of the Protestants. Mr. Warren was the last teacher who taught there.
- There was an old school where Mr. Dwyer now lives in Modeshill. Mrs Dwyer taught there and her husband Mr James Dwyer taught English lessons there. There was an old school in Kylemore in a field which is owned now by Mrs. Denny, Miss Mary Keefe taught there and sometimes her sister helped her. My father went to school there.
