- About the year 1887 there was a great drought. During this time very few crops grew and whatever grew were very poor. The grass was all burned, and all the streams, and wells were dried up.About half a mile outside Ardfinnan there is a small wood, and this wood was so turned, and dry that one match set the whole of it on fireThe country remained without rain from the 3rd February until the 6th September, and on that date we got the first drop of rain after six months.
