- Long-ago people thought it a sign of death if a picture fell, without any apparent reason.
They also thought it a sign of death if there is great stillness around the house.
If it is raining, and there is a clear sky towards the north it is a sure sign of a fine day. - In olden times people always kept what was known as St Brigid's Band. On the night before St Brigid's Day a decade of the rosary was said, in honour of St Brigid and a piece of cloth was put out on the hedge, next day this cloth was taken in, and kept as a cure for a headache.
