  1. The Game I play
The game I like best is France. It is usually played on a nice flat ground, and is played by young and old children. A square is drawn on the ground, and divided into six small squares, each square being called a "bed" square. On a bed there is a number, the first bed No., 1., and the last bed No. 6. A small flat stone or a piece of timber which is called a "slig" is then got. Two girls usually play the game between them. One girl puts the "slig" into the first "bed", and pushed it with her right leg into the next bed. She must not leave her left leg on the ground. If the "slig" does not go into the next bed, or if it remains on the line, or if she takes two hops in one bed, she is "out". An old rhyme refers to this game.
    Criss, Cross, Molly Ass,
    That you may be out."
