    also told that if a farmer had a valuable horse he would kill a cock and spill the blood so that anything wouldn't happen the horse during the year and if it was a mare they would kill a hen.
    I was also told that if a farmer had a big flock of sheep he would kill one on St Martin's Eve so that the rest would thrive.
    Long ago any wheels would not be let go around in honour of St Martin. There used to be a fair held in Clare-Castle about twenty miles from here, and all the people from here walked it there so that they wouldnt break the custom. The mill owners in this district still dont work their mills on account of the fact that he was ground in a mill.
