  1. The name of the town is Ennis in Irish Inis Cluain Ramha fhada the Island meadow of long rowings. The town was on an island now half of the river has dried up. At first the town grew up around Ennis Abbey which as founded by the King of Thomond - as Clare was called in the twelfth century. The principal town in Clare is Ennis . There are many old narrow streets and the ruins of many old buildings left in Ennis yet. The King of Thomond's palace was in Clonroad where Knox's house is now and the ruins of his castle are yet to be seen. The days for the markets are Wednesday and Saturdays. Where O Connell's monuments stand now there was a courthouse. The name of the monuments in Ennis at present are, O'Connells monuments and the Manchester Marytr's monument. There are five schools in Ennis. There are three factorys in Ennis the whiting factory and the lace factory.
    It is the principal town in County Clare . The town grew up around Ennis Abbey which was founded by the King of Thomond in
