Peter O'Loughlin Cullinagh, Ennistymon was a noted jumper, swimmer and runner. ...

    (continued from previous page)
Clouna the priest called to see Peter. The priest challenged Peter. "What about that rick of turf" says Peter. "We won't mind it Peter" says the priest, but Peter flew over it. The rick was about ten feet high and built on high ground besides. He was also a famous mower and every year when he had finished the mowing of the hay with a scythe, he used to put two forks standing with the prongs up and put one fork across the prongs (English forks in those days had much longer handles than they have now) and jump across to see if he had lost any of his energy while mowing. This man was able to beat the best of men at cutting turf when seventy seven years of age. He died about thirteen years ago aged eighty six years.
