“The night of the bid wind was on the sixth of January 1839...”
The night of the big wind was on the sixth of January 1839. There were a couple of ricks of hay belonging to Martin Marrinan of Monreel scattered all over the county. There was a horse belonging to Michael Ginnane of Tullagarvin put into a canal and she was got dead there the next day. There was a house belonging to the Neylons of Knocnagrage knocked with the wind but there was a room left in which they lived until they built another house to live in. There was great damage done on the night of the big wind.- Collector
