    arrived on the scene from Ennistymon attacked the rear guard of the volunteers who retreated across the hills towards Mt Callan.
    They shot an old farmer near his own home named Kean and set fire to two houses belonging to Mr Thomas O'Gorman and and to Patrick Honan. Great tension prevailed in Miltown Lahinch and Ennistymon that night. Timid people left their homes and cleared off to the houses of their friends in the country
