- A Story
A little past Kilwirra grave-yard is the church of Ballina. St donart is said to have built the church. He was a disciple of St. Patrick. St Donart fell out with the Earl of Carlingford. the Earl went to the chruch and took the Chalice out of the tabernacle and threw it into the sea.
Not long after this it was prophesied that before a tragedy the Chalice should appear above the water. It came to pass that a couple got married, and as they were sailing up Carlingford Lough the Chalice suddenly appeared above the water. They knew something was going to happen but the couple could not escape.
The storm continued with thunder, lightning, and rain and kept on for a long time. All were saved except the bride who was drowned.
