- Old Houses
There are not many old houses in this district.
The houses long ago were mostly thatched, very few of them were slated.
In most of the houses there was a settle bed. The settle bed was kept along the wall.
The fireplace was in the gable wall. There were no fireplaces in the side wall or in a corner.
Long ago there were some houses without chimneys.
The fire would be in the centre of the floor and a hole in the roof.
Turf and wood was used for fire and tapers were used for giving light to the people.
Candles were made in this district long ago.
