  2. hedge Schools
In the year 1832 there was an old school where Mc Ardles old forge was in Mc Keevers field in lower Edmondstown. The name of the teacher was Peter Mullan. Each pupil had to bring a penny every Monday morning to pay the teacher. My grandfather went to school in it. The chief subjects were Irish and English and Latin.
There was also another school in the church yard the name of the teacher was Owne Matthews who used to write on a slate and he would make the children do the same
