  1. During the time of Collier the robber, wages were very small. Good men could be had for 10d and 1/- a day. The rents were very high and there were poor prices for the farm produce. Even well to do farmers at the time or people who could pay the rent were evicted when their lease expired. Many of them found it hard to save the rent. Collier got to know the day the the agent was
