- Local HappeningsAbout 1795 a party of Defenders visited Rooske - a mile from Dunboyne. In Rooske there lived an informer named Connolly. The Defenders attacked him and murdered him. They slit his mouth. Just then a herd in the imployment of Captain Wilson Rooske came on the scene. He was also set upon and slained in the same manner as the other. A reward of £100 was offered for the murderers but they were never found. Since then the place of the murder has been called the "Murdering field".
