Penal Laws. The marks of the whip are supposed to be visible on the bark of the tree. It is most likely that the original tree has fallen and that the present tree is one which has grown from its seeds. The tower was built in the 9th or 10th century. It is 66 ft in circumference at the bottom and it is 110 ft high. The wall is 3 ft. 9 in thick. The door is 12 ft from the ground and it faces East. It is 5ft 2 in high and it has a semi-circular arched top. The door is wider outside than it is toward the inside. There is a figure of Christ and two men over the door. It may represent Calvary. The oldest tomb stone is dated 1727 but there are many weather-beaten ones which may be older.
