    Long ago the people had no candles and they did not go to the shop and buy them as we do nowadays. They got the thick bull rushes and peeled them and boiled them in fat and cooled them and made rush candles.

    Long ago the people had no starch and they got some raw potatoes and grated them and poured boiling water over them and this formed nice thick starch.

    Long ago people got sticks out of the hedge and got a long ash handle and tied the sticks to this in order to sweep leaves.
