    It is a great marsh and is often flooded in rainy weather.
    A few yards beyond the railway line and on the Balrath road is a row of old houses, which were known as the "Crocan". They were all built on a little hill. Just opposite is a field called "Coopers Park". Here, lived basket makers named "Whites".
    Lightown
    Long before cement or any of our modern building materials were within reach of the poorer class community here in Ireland, there were countless cabins all over the country, which, often times housed a large family in their two apartments.
    These cabins were built of mud or sods cut in herring-bone fashion, and were covered with straw or sedge. The spy-holes, for the windows, were a little better and were made a foot square and into these spaces were placed a single pane of thick glass, called rib-glass.
