- It is hard now to glean anything in the nature of authentic information concerning the life and times of Peter Galligan as all that lived nearest to his time are dead and gone. The nearest that we can go therefore to the matter is to jot down any anecdotes concerning him that remained current in the locality where he lived or where he was accustomed to resort. Some of which survived with the old people down to about twenty years ago. Whether he wrote anything original in Irish I have never heard but it is well known that he composed songs in English about local events that took place during his time. One of those compositions that was very popular among the people about a generation or two ago was a song he composed on races that took place in Ardamagh. It used to be sung by people in my young days. I shall give all I remember of it, a mere fragment indeed. It was composed by him(continues on next page)
