  1. The first football that was invented was a hay-ball. On a Sunday a good many young boys used to get together; they would twist a hay rope very tight about a yard long and they would roll the rope round a piece of stick. When they would have the ball made they would call a match, one side would go into one field and the other side into another field, and they would kick the ball from one field to the other.
