    were all gone off it with the continuous sitting on the nest and no eggs under her. Another way for testing eggs was to get a basin of luke warm water and put an egg in it. If the egg jumped up in the water there was a bird in it but if it went to the bottom there was no bird in it.
    Before they hatched the eggs they got one of them and left in on the table. They got a needle with a thread in it and held it over the egg. If the needle swing round there was a pullet in it but if the needle stood still over it there was a rooster in it.
    When the chickens came out they kept the shells rolled up
