- Local Story: Hidden TreasureThe following story was told by Michael Jackson Edengorra, Age 56, Bailieboro, Co. Meath and his daughter Mary.This story happened on the lands of Mr. James Roundtree Ashfield, Moynalty, Co. Meath. One of his fields called the "Castle Field" overlooks the beautiful Lake of Bawnbreaky. In this field there is a large hill called the "Castle Hill".On this hill a fine castle once stood. The owner had a large keg of gold for which he was known all over Ireland. One day he heard Cromwell was coming to knock down the castle and to take the gold.The owner saw the enemy coming. He then got the keg of gold and let it roll down into the lake. It is said that it still lies there. The places where the enemy "planted" their cannons to bombard the castle are still to be seen.
