With sporting dog and gun
I beat my way to Loughanlea
To have a bit of fun
And with me came that August day
A comrade staunch and true
Who never feared a keeper bold
Or belted man in blue
Now when we reached the mountain base
We sat upon a mound
To rest our limbs and draw our breath
And have a look around
And as we gazed adown the vale
There came into our view
Some half a score of canvas tents
And horses in review.
