- Finea is situated in the extreme north of Westmeath on the borders of Co Cavan. It is a small rural village. The River Inny divides the village in to two parts. The southern and larger portion is in Co Westmeath and the northern portion is in Co Cavan. This village is so called because long ago a wood grew near the ford which lies in the River Inny. This ford was the main passage from Ulster to Leinster on this account and it was also called in olden days " The Gap of the North ".The village consists of 20 residential houses, five shops, three public houses, a dispensary and a post office.
