- Mostly all people has churns. There are different kinds and different sizes. The dash churn is the oldest make and it was always used by the old people in former times. The dash churn is round. It is wide at top and bottom and narrower in the middle.
The farmer that kept nine and ten cows used to use a horse for churning. The churn was the same shape but much larger. They would have a crank upon the dash and from the crank chains going through the wall. The horse was harnessed as if he was going to plough. A man or boy would go around in a ring and with his movement the dash would go up and down in the churn the same as if you were churning with our hand.
At the present day they have barrel churns. Any small child is able to churn a crock of cream in a short time. Generally the son does(continues on next page) - Collector
