Informant - Mrs Clinton, Gartlandstown, Crookedwood.Note Knock Ross is in the townland in Gartlandstown, parish of Mayne and barony of Demi-fore. - During the penal days Mass was said in Faughalstown and Knockion once a week. The people at the Crooked Wood kept carrier pideons which were trained to fly to the place in Faughalstown where Mass was said, they were also trained to fly to the chapel in Knockion.
When the people at the Crooked Wood saw the enemy coming to Faughalstown or Knockion they let out the pigeons to both places to warn the priest that the enemy was going there, thus giving time to the priest to have everything hidden.
