    Old Houses.
Where our house now stands there was a thatched house long ago. The walls were made of yellow clay and the roof thatched with rushes. The chimney was also built of clay and wattles. The fire places were very big and on each side of it was a seat called the chimney seat. Old people used sit in those seats kindling their pipes and telling stories. The chimney was very wide all through and a person could go nearly up through it. There were three rooms in the house, one at each end and the kitchen in the middle.
