  1. There was a hedge school. It was in Mylroo Moylroe. It was in a field belonging to Mr Murphy. The name of the master who taught in it was Master Lynam. He used to lodge in some rich man's house in the district. They way the teacher used to be paid was each pupil had to bring a penny a day. The subjects taught were English, Arithmetic,Catechism and sometimes Irish. They used to write on a slate and later they used to write with a quill pen and paper. The children used to be seated on big stones. The master had no blackboard but a large slate. Master Lynam stayed in Moylroe for fourteen years. The
