- There are two forges in my Parish. The one I know best is situated in the town of Delvin facing the Athboy Road. The smiths name is John Mullan. His people have been smiths for many years. The forge is situated near a cross roads. The forge is a long high building and it has a wooden floor two windows which are in the front and a large sliding door. It has two fire places but only one is used. The roof is made of corigated iron. The fire which is of a special black smiths coal, is lit by means of a bellows also a chain when the chain is drawn down it causes the bellows to act as a wind-mill underneath the fire and kindle it.
