- There was a tannery long ago on Kill-Lock river. Hagerty was the man's name who used to work it. He used to skin animals steep the skins in water and lime and then bury them for a week and then he used to take them up and nailed them to a board to stretch them. Then he used to put two skins together and press them closely with a machine.
