- The people of this district were badly off duirng the years of the Famine - they were poor and could not afford to keep the cdorn, and as the potatoe crop failed they were often hungry.
George Purdon of Lisnabin Castle (less than a quarter of a mile from the school) and where his grandson Captain Purdon his wife and family now reside had a large field of turnips. He told th epoor people around that they could take them. This came as a great relief to the people who came each day for their supplies to the turnip field at Lisnabin.(continues on next page)- Collector
