- GreenPeople long ago made their own dyes. They cut off the tops of the Ash branches and put them in water. A weight was put down on. At the end of four or five days the sticks were taken out of the water and a green dye remianed. This dye was used for dye-ing clothes.PurpleSometimes people got roots of a weed called crow-foot and poured hot water on them. They were then left in a warm place for three weeks. The roots were then taken away and a purple dye was left.
