  1. Local Heroes
There was a man named Peter Leech who lived in Kinnegad some years ago. He was a great stone thrower and went around the country taking part in various contests.
He could throw a fifty-six pound weight a considerable distance.
There were a few swift runners in my neighbourhood long ago.
Contests were held in Mullingar, when the men came together and took part in the race.
Long ago people walked very long distances.
As there were no trains or other means of transport then, the people were obliged to make long journeys on foot.
They often set out some days before a fair was due to be held and walked twenty or thirty miles to the place.
