- There are a great deal of travelling folk around this district. They are formed in groups of tinkers, gypsies and peddlers.
The tinkers go around from house to house begging. They camp out at night in all kinds of weather. They are a very troublesome crowd causing torment wherever they go. Gypsies are supposed to come from south Italy. The gypsies have the same method of camping as the tinkers. Making their living by making reed baskets and selling them and by telling fortunes.(continues on next page)
