- Long ago tea was never used except at Christmas. People were fined if the(y) were known to have tea in their houses as it was considered a stimulant.
There bread was made on Indian meal. They used to make it with a thing called sowens. This was made of potatoes and a little flour and water. It was kept steeping in a crock and water added from time to time.
