  1. The most harmful weeds growing on our farm are the "red soldier" or poppy, clapóg, dock, thistle, praiscas and Buachalán
    The red soldier is harmful because it impoverishes the soil and spreads rapidly The clapóg impoverishes the soil also. The dock impoverishes the soil and spreads rapidly. The thistle is injurious to the grazing stock because it will blind them if it strikes them.
    The "praiseach" is the most injurious weed on the farm. It chokes young turnips and grain crops and spreads very rapidly. It is said that that thistle only grows where the land is fertile.
    The old people say that the "clapóg" and poppy grow only on poor land. It is said that
