  1. When there were no factories to manufacture the goods for the people they made their own goods in their own homes. In this locality there were many forms of industry. In Killaroo, a townland about three miles from Killare rush candle making was the chief industry.
    Just as a big factory is to be found in a district in which there is material for manufacture, so candle making is to be found in a district which is situated near a bog, because the people can get the rushes which are necessary for the manufacture of the candles.
