   flags. On one occasion several priests were beheaded at a place called Newtown in the townland of Moate. One day before Mass was celebrated at Newtown a man gave warning to the priest that he was to be taken away before Mass was celebrated. The priest thought that the man was joking but that was not so. The man told the priest not to take off his Vestments but that he would be spared. After that there was never a priest beheaded at Newtown. While Mass was being celebrated there were five or six boys on the watch to see were there any English soldiers approaching.

   In the townland of Moate there is a place called Newtown where there dwelt a priest hunter named Lowe who travelled this district in search of priests. On Sunday when the Catholics had assembled in the cave where they celebrated Mass in the dark Penal Days this man hid himself
