- (continued from previous page)and Ballinagore in the townland of Killard. He taught school in the kitchen. There was no Irish spoken. The children wrote with pencils.
- There was a Hedge school in Mr Clavins field in Ballinamill Streamstown. The teacher was Mr. Garland a native of that place. The Alphabet was either cut out on stone or made out of mud and pasted up against the wall. There were big branches across from one wall to another and it was roofed with scraws and rushes.
There was a Hedge school in Ballinabarna in a field called the Slug field. The teacher was Mr O'Shea. He taught school in a mud-wall cabin. If it was raining he would bring the pupils to his dwelling house.- Collector
