The Clarkes were a great family who lived in Castletown. They spun the flax and made the clothes themselves. There are five spinning wheels in this district. Mrs Neill, Mrs. Carey, Mrs. Manny, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Fox have each one. Mrs Kelly has a knitting machine in which she knits socks and stockings. My mother makes shirts and knits stockings in her spare time.
