  1. The principal local roads in this district are the roads which lead from Carey's crossroads to Mullingar, Horseleap, Loughnavalley and Ballinacargy. These roads were made about one hundred years ago. They were only rough roads at first but as time went on and motor cars were introduced they had to be made better, as the rough sand would cut the tyres of the motor, Then the roads were tarred and steam-rolled and this work provided much employment for the poor people of the district. From time to time the members of the Board of Health give grants to repair the roads.
    There are a few very old roads in this district but they are only called by-roads and there is not much traffic on them. There is an old road from
