    Long ago the people never bought starch but they used to make it out of potatoes.
    When the potatoes are fit to dig, it is usually the custom for every one out of the house, even the women, to go out to give a hand at the picking of the potatoes.
    The only sort of Potatoes which are not very common in this district are the
    Aran Victors, which are a fairly good crop, but are not very plentiful. Long ago the people only dug the potatoes when they wanted them instead of digging them all out and putting them in pits as they do in the present day. The people who did dig all the potatoes out long ago used to store them in barns instead of in pits.
