Some years ago people made their own candles as there were no lamps.
Before making the candles they got the fat of animals which they called tallow and buried it until it became white. Then they provided long thick rushes which were fashioned into candles by their parents. The parents used to peel these rushes leaving but one strip of the skin on them to keep them from breaking. Then they had a metal grisset in which they used to preserve the tallow. This grisset was of(continues on next page)- Informant
