book to investigate it, they saw that it was very valuable. It consisted of gospels and psalms relating to the old cushlán which was formerly a chapel in the penal times.
In this Cushlán there is part of an altar. This altar consists of stone and is apparently very old. At the back of this altar there is a stone slab, deeply embedded in the back of the altar. On the slab is written eight different languages. Several people and priests tried to make it out but it failed them. The old cushlán is situated in the centre of the churchyard of Temple cross about two miles from the village of Ballynacargy, near my home.
