    When they were on the water the boat started to leak.
    Some of them started to quarrel over the teeming of it, and one of them stood on the edge of the boat and heaved it over into the water, and they all fell out. One of the men caught hold of one of the girl's long hair round his hand, while he made his way through the water with the other hand. He told the other girl to hold on to her sister, and he would bring the two of them out safe, and she did as she was told.
    He dragged them for a long way until at last the girl that was holding on to the other one, got exhausted and let go her hold and fell into the water and was drowned.
    There were three lives lost in it. Tom Macken, one of the Melias, and my grandfather.
