  1. A Flail is a tool for threshing corn. It consists of a handstaff boolkeen too [two] capeens and the middle band.
    The handstaff is 4 feet long it is made of willow or some light wood. The boolkeen or beater is 3 feet 6 inches long, and is made of white thorn or some heavy timber. The capeens are made of yew tree bent by the heat of the fire and tied on the ends of each of the sticks leaving a small loop for the middle band which is made of eel skin.
