Long ago there was an old school situated in Killendraw, parish of Drumraney and county of Westmeath. There was an old house in this place where school was carried on long ago. The house was built with larch poles and scraws. The school master was not a stranger his name was Mr Keegan. It was night school that was carried on. The seats were poles left on the ground. It was the pupils that paid the teacher by bringing him a penny. In Winter the children brought a sod of turf for themselves.- Collector
