“The roads in the townsland of Fairfield are only bye roads...”
The roads in the townsland of Fairfield are only bye roads. In olden times one of them used to be the coach road from Athlone to Mullingar. Part of it is not used now, it is just an old boreen or pass way to people's land. The road used now comes on from Killininn[?] cross-roads along under the old castle of Bryanmore or as it was called long ago the "House of Hospitality." It is called the Bryanmore road it joins the old coach at the Cushlawn hill and comes on to Fairfield crossroads, one part goes along to Moate through Dunlum and Shurock and the other goes to Athlone, through Creeve, Bellville and Moydrum.21-7-38- Collector
